Intro Series: Data Management
Education Data Management
I started managing data back in 2014, as a Product manager with Event Farm. I was 22 and fresh out of college with no coding background, at a startup being asked to mange Fortune 1000 clients, and functioning as 5% of the company on day one, and 100% of the products impact engine.
Data analysis, and insight delivery was my favorite deliverable, I loved exploring how guest and app users engage with a world that is digitally enabled. Without a math/ com-sci degree I succeeded because leaned on my team, asked a ton of empathy rooted questions regarding the clients vague asks and developed impactful reports; visualizing how guests are best served and presenting strategic insights to company’s like Unilever and Jack Daniels, all data-informed and powered by me.
Following those experiences I diversified my data appetite through private sector work, working edtech, and earning my degree in Learning Analytics.
This series is an intro instructional blog series for those who have been asked to “look at the data,” or “see what you can do with that spreadsheet”. This is a lens to start with, a process to chew on.

Intro Series: Privacy and Identify
Privacy Budgets + Fundamentals of Privacy Management.
“Mind your own business!” How many of us grew up learning that, or to stay out of “grown folk business”? Well apparently those commandments don’t apply to those outside the home, or those who want to know who you are in your most private spaces.
Whether it’s a locked away journal, private finsta, or a recent change in relationship status our information is important to us in moments but holds value to others in ways that may make us cringe if we knew the full extent.
The line between what information is considered public and what is considered private is constantly being redrawn. By analyzing the philosophical perspectives behind the concept of private versus public, the advantages and setbacks, and the philosophers behind them one come aware of our dats bodies and how we want to hold space for our identities.
The following is summation of my theory of practice regarding privacy ethics and data stewardship based in the exploration of privacy philosophies and principles of data management, with an emphasis on building “data-body” awareness among readers.
This series is an editorial blog series for those who want to understand value their data carries. I hope you begin to see your data agency, and see able to identify systems that profit off your identity.
