About

Our mission is to create national holiday, “Remembrance Day” events that foster deeper cultural connections through anchoring the power of collective memory building in elders’ wisdom and community projects.

Remembrance is a Nationally Recognized Afrofuturism campaign for elders, an American collective memory project. Think, “The MOTH” or “TEDTalks” where we blend storytelling and practical actions into a platform that restores elders as our community anchors. Through our podcasts, live local celebrations, and local-to-national storytelling network, we are building a culture of remembrance for us, by us.

Our Theory of Change
By mapping the gaps between communities, creating spaces for storytelling, foster cultural connections, and amplify cultural expression across generations we’ll harness the our collective memory as evidence of the futures we want to build.

The Problem Today

We’ve lost interior lives, dignity, narrative control, intergenerational transmission, collective imagination. Put more rightly:

  • Memory is disappearing.
  • Elders are underserved.
  • Intergenerational connection is breaking.
  • Communities are losing cultural continuity.

What We Build

We create a generative, compassionate, and permissive space where elders speak their truths, the next generation listens with intention, and communities imagine freer futures together.

I believe every block has a story.” – Founder Rob Jackson

Remembrance is a collective initiative to celebrate and preserve the stories & cultural expression of Black Communities. Our Elders hold:

  • multigenerational wisdom,
  • economic knowledge,
  • healing traditions,
  • political history,
  • survival technologies,
  • and lost rituals of celebration.
